ACVVS Volunteer Charles decided to volunteer as part of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme because he enjoys volunteering and chatting to elderly people and hearing their stories and sharing his stories.
Charles was matched to visit Peter, who decided to join the program because he would like a visitor. Peter lives with his son and his family, and thought he would like the opportunity to have a regular visitor to spend time with, just the two of them for social outings.
Peter enjoys chatting and said about the visits with Charles: “Its great meeting up with Charles, we have good times together”.
Charles has been visiting Peter since September 2024. In the one year since they were first matched through the program, Peter and Charles have enjoyed many outings and conversations together about many topics.
Their friendship has developed over this time and Charles said: “I have been visiting with Peter and its really great, we get along so well. We talk about football, politics and everything in between. Hopefully we can keep doing this for years”.
